Almost all of them are eccentric, played for either laughs or creepy-crawly feelings. Side characters are usually one-off but memorable. She joins the brothers early on, saying she owes them a favor, and adds an impatient voice of reason to the group. This is all before I mention our delightfully-grumpy third lead, Beatrice the bluebird. The development (or lack thereof) between them becomes a key point of our tale. Greg is overly chipper, and Wirt is dismissive. As someone who grew up with a brother six years younger than myself, that tells me things about their relationship. It's nothing intentional on his part, but. There's a moment in the first episode where something is after them, and Wirt just runs off-screen without dragging his kid brother along. What I really love about these two is their flawed dynamic. He rushes to greet unfamiliar things and runs on a system of logic entirely his own. In fact, Greg provides a lot of the sillier moments. Greg is his younger, goofier brother who doesn't seem phased by anything. Wirt is cautious, somewhat pessimistic, and overall freaked out about their general situation. Wirt and Greg are siblings roughly 8 to 10 years apart in age. Everything helps flesh out the people and creatures we follow. The episodes are somewhat self-contained with little 'pockets of stories' the characters run into, but all of them progress toward an over-arcing plot and theme. You are going to get sucked into this environment, and you are going to wonder what you'll discover next. It's a mix that creates a fantastic atmosphere. Similarly, the art goes between gorgeous fall scenery and dark, shadowy scenes. The tone of the show bounces between goofy and unsettling with several emotions in between.

This is a 10 episode mini series that runs about the same length as a movie, and it is worth your time. As they get further along, it becomes clear that something is watching them from deep within the woods.

Some are humorous, and some are menacing. While they search for a way home, they run into all kinds of odd-ball places and people. Over the Garden Wall follows two brothers (Wirt and Greg) lost in a forest called The Unknown. It comes in an easy-to-swallow three-point size!
